Two weeks and counting!

It's officially been two weeks since we moved to New York. Now that we're 90% moved in, we've been taking advantage of everything the city has to offer. Highlights include:

* Cocktails with friends at one of our many neighborhood hangouts, the Art Bar. There is a very interesting version of The Last Supper in the back room that features Jim Morrisson as the central figure. Go figure. http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/7117553/new_york_ny/art_bar.html

* Walking/Hiking in the Cloisters. Although this is technically in Manhattan, it felt a world away. The actual Cloisters is a museum, but we spent most of our time walking around Fort Tryon Park. We even saw a chipmunk. After the Cloisters, we walked from 125th Street to our apt at 14th Street in 90 degree heat. Yes, we had lost our minds.

* Partying in New Jersey (yes, that New Jersey) with Stanford friends at the Dixon Mills building. One of our friends lives in it -- it's a converted pencil factory. I'm happy to report that no one's eyes were poked out during the party.

* Bayside! The Unmusical. One of Elliott's brother's friends put on a hilarious unmusical based on Saved by the Bell. I would include some of the quotes from the play, but this blog is rated PG.

* Philharmonic Under the Stars in Central Park. We picnicked with friends and drank wine while listening to the Philharmonic. Compared to Bayside!, this felt like a very civilized event. The humidity was somewhat unbearable, but otherwise it was a perfect evening of bread, cheese and wind instruments.

* Watching The Big Lebowski on an outdoor movie theater along the Hudson Rivier. Free popcorn and raw tushies from sitting on the pavement included.

* Mets Game v. the Padres. The Mets smoked 'em 12 - 0. The oddest experience was buying a beer at the concession stand. The attendant told us he only had "draft". We asked him what type of draft and his response was "draft". I think what he really meant was half a cup of foam with some warm brown liquid underneath. Ah, how we miss Pac Bell Park.

* Playing Scrabble in a local bar. One of us smoked the other 2 - 0. Well, it was definitely 1-0 until the winner of the first game accidentally spilled beer all over the Scabble board. But she was winning anyway, so it doesn't matter. Oops, I guess you know the winner now. ; )

Can you believe how much fun we're having? Neither can we. And all of this happened in less than a week. Not working really rocks. NY rocks too.
