Nintendo Gameboy

It seems only appropriate that on the first day of New York Toy Fair I rediscovered my Nintendo Gameboy. As I was searching for a bag to hold all of my supplies for my Interior Design class I found my Gameboy in the back of a cabinet. I received it as a gift from three friends for my Sweet 16...in 1990. I cannot believe that it still works, 16 years and half my life later. There is a lot of dust trapped under the screen, but other than that it works as well is it did on my 16th birthday.

As dorky as it sounds, I have a special place in my heart for my vintage Gameboy. After playing hundreds of hours of Pitfall, Snafu and Super Mario Brothers on Intellivision and the original Nintendo, my interest in video games waned. It was rekindled with my Gameboy and the one game I ever owned: Tetris. When I really think about it, my Gameboy is one of the few things that I still own from high school. It goes where I go - from Encino to Palo Alto, from San Francisco to New York. It's always lived in the same room, too. (Anyone who has spent enough time in any of my former residences knows where I keep the Gameboy. You have to admit that it's a great way to pass the time.)

I can't believe that I'm getting nostalgic about a handheld video game player. Man, I'm getting old and sentimental!
